Lut in the Quran
Lut is the nephew of Ibrahim and, in the Quran, a prophet in his own right rather than only a relative. He is sent to his people, he warns them, and the account of what followed appears across Surah Hud, Surah Al-Araf, Surah Ash-Shuara and Surah Al-Qamar.
The Quranic telling gives him a line that is hard to read without discomfort: he says that he wishes he had strength against them, or some strong support to turn to. It is one of the few places where a prophet in the Quran states plainly that he is outmatched.
The angels who visit Ibrahim with the news of Ishaq go on to Lut, and the two episodes are almost always told together in the Quran. His name is not commonly given to children, and the page here exists to answer the question rather than to recommend the name.
