What Ta (heavy) encodes

Look at the form of heavy Ta: a circle with a vertical stroke through its centre. Literally a wheel. This is not metaphor; the letter encodes what its shape shows. طواف (tawaf. The circumambulation of the Kaaba) begins with Ta. طريق (tariq. The road) begins with Ta. طبيعة (tabi'a. Nature itself) begins with Ta: the great cycles of the natural world.

Heavy Ta opens طه (Ta-Ha, Surah 20). The surah where Allah addresses the Prophet directly by name. It also opens طس (Ta-Seen) and طسم (Ta-Seen-Meem) opening surahs of Musa's journey: departure, exile, and return. The wheel principle governs all of these. The circular journey, the departure that becomes a return, the exile that completes the self. Professor Ahmad Rafique Akhtar notes that when the wheel was first invented, the word used was rooted in this Ta principle. Humans recognized the circular-return nature of the wheel and named it from the letter that carries that principle.
