How do I contact AsrNaam? Write to hello@asrnaam.com. Corrections to a name are the most useful thing you can send, and they get fixed.
Response time
Asrnaam is a small project. We answer most messages within a week. Please include the name slug or page URL when reporting a correction so we can find it quickly.
Useful subject lines
- Correction. For factual errors in a meaning, root, Quranic citation, or Urdu form.
- Famous bearer. To suggest a historical or contemporary figure for a name's Famous Bearers section.
- New name. To propose a canonical name we don't yet cover.
- Source. To ask which classical authority a particular letter reading rests on.
How corrections are handled
A correction is checked against the sources listed on the About page before anything changes: the classical Arabic lexicons for the root and the dictionary sense, a Quranic concordance where the name or its root appears in scripture, and biographical sources for anyone listed under famous bearers. If the correction holds, the page is updated. If it does not, we write back and say why, with the reference we relied on.
Disagreement about a meaning is common and usually legitimate. Names carry more than one defensible reading, and regional usage diverges from the lexicon more often than most name sites admit. Where two readings both have support, the page should say so rather than pick one silently. If you find a page that does not, that is worth reporting.
What we cannot do
- We do not name children for people, and we do not rank names by how auspicious they are. The letter readings are a contemplative tradition, not a prediction.
- We do not give religious rulings. Whether a particular name is permissible for your family is a question for a scholar you trust.
- We cannot verify family history or lineage claims.
