Dictionary Meaning
What Khabbab means
Quick, lively — from root خ-ب-ب (khabbaba — to be quick, lively). خباب (Khabbab — quick, lively). Khabbab ibn al-Aratt (RA) was one of the earliest Muslims, enslaved to a Qurayshi woman. He was tortured repeatedly — hot coals were placed on his bare back until they were extinguished by the melting of his flesh. He went to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'Will you not pray to Allah for us?' The Prophet said: 'The believers before you were tortured more severely and remained firm. Be patient.' He survived to see Islam's triumph and lived to 63.

The Letters
Reading Khabbab through Ilm ul Huroof
Every Arabic name is a sequence of ontological principles. The first letter governs the outward self. The middle letters govern the interior. The final letter governs how things resolve.
Kha (kh) — hidden interior. Ba (b) — vessel. Alif (a) — origin. Ba (b) — vessel again. Hidden interior — vessel — origin — vessel. The firm: from hidden interior depth, doubly a vessel for endurance, originary. Double Ba: doubly holding what cannot be broken.
"A name is not a label assigned after the fact. It is a structure of principles that begins its work the moment it is given."
In the tradition of Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi
The Portrait
What Khabbab asks of its bearer
At the opening of Khabbab stands Kha: an outward self with hidden depth. Inside the name, Ba brings an interior that holds and shelters; Alif brings an originary axis at the interior. These are the hidden weathers of the name. The Ba resolves the name: the life resolves toward what is built and inhabited. The work of the name is to let quick, lively live through every letter — so that his life takes the same shape as his name.
Khabbab ibn al-Aratt (RA) — hot coals placed on his back, extinguished by melting flesh. He endured. The Prophet's words to him: 'Be patient' — became one of the most cited prophetic counsels.
