Hikma is one of the most exalted concepts in the Quran, named explicitly as one of the four things the Prophet was sent to give: 'He recites to them His verses, purifies them, and teaches them the Book and the Wisdom (al-hikma)' (62:2).
The Quran says: 'He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good' (2:269). The Prophet Luqman is the great Quranic figure of hikma: 'And We had certainly given Luqman wisdom' (31:12) — and what follows is the most concentrated parental counsel in the Quran.
