What Shuaib means
The Prophet of Midian — Shuaib (AS), one of the prophets sent to a specific people in the Quran. He was sent to the people of Madyan, a trading community in the northwest of Arabia. His mission was specific: he confronted the economic injustice of his people, who cheated in weights and measures and exploited travellers passing through their territory.
His Quranic message is some of the most direct economic teaching in scripture: 'O my people, give full measure and weight in justice and do not deprive the people of their due, and do not cause corruption upon the earth, spreading mischief' (11:85). When his people rejected him, they were destroyed by an earthquake, with only Shuaib and the believers surviving. Allah says: 'And those who had wronged were seized by the shriek, and they became within their homes fallen prone' (11:94).
Shuaib is also the prophet whose daughter Musa met at the well in Madyan, when Musa had fled Egypt after killing the Egyptian. Musa drew water for the daughters' flock; one of them returned to her father and recommended Musa as a worker: 'Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy' (28:26). Shuaib then offered his daughter in marriage in exchange for eight to ten years of work.

What Shuaib asks of its bearer
What carries Shuaib into the world is Sheen: an outward self that branches. Inside the name, Ain brings an interior of seeing; Ya brings an interior of strong selfhood. These are the forces that shape the inner life. The Ba resolves the name: the life resolves toward what is built and inhabited. The whole sequence is one instruction: let the Prophet of Midian be the practice, not the label.
Shuaib (AS) — Prophet of commercial ethics. Sent to Midian to reform a people who cheated in weights and measures.
