Blessed, fortunate, the safely-arrived — the Pakistani Urdu spelling of Maymunah (ميمونة), from the Arabic root ي-م-ن (yamana — to be on the right, to be fortunate, blessed). The right side in Arabic and in the Quran is the side of blessing: the People of the Right (ashab al-yamin) are the dwellers of Paradise: 'And the companions of the right — what are the companions of the right?' (56:27).
The most famous bearer is Maymunah bint al-Harith (RA), the last of the Mothers of the Believers — the eleventh and final wife of the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet married her in the month of Dhul-Qi'dah after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, and she lived until 51 AH (around 671 CE), passing away at the same place where she had been married — Sarif, near Makkah. Aisha (RA) said of her: 'By Allah, Maymunah was the most God-fearing among us and the most kind to her relatives.' The Prophet's nephew Ibn Abbas (RA) was Maymunah's nephew through her sister, and he learned much of his Hadith from her household.
