Ja'far led the first Muslim emigration to Abyssinia and is the Companion who recited Surah Maryam to the Christian Negus (al-Najashi), reducing the king to tears and securing Muslim asylum. He returned to the Prophet ﷺ in Madinah on the same day Khaybar fell, and the Prophet said: 'I do not know which makes me happier. Ja'far's return or Khaybar's victory', and kissed him between the eyes. Ja'far was martyred at the Battle of Mu'tah in 8 AH after losing both arms holding the Muslim banner. The Prophet ﷺ said Allah replaced his severed arms with two wings in Paradise, earning him the name Ja'far al-Tayyar (Ja'far the Flyer) and Dhu al-Janahayn (the Two-Winged).
