What Hala means
From the Arabic hālah (هالة) — the halo around the moon, the bright ring that appears on damp nights when the full moon lights the high cloud-veil. Classical Arabic poetry uses the image as the central metaphor for a beautiful face surrounded by softly-flowing hair. The pre-Islamic Arab cosmology read the lunar halo as a sign of coming rain — a blessing sign, since rain was life.
Hala bint Khuwaylid was the elder sister of Khadīja (the Prophet's first wife) and so the sister-in-law of the Prophet ﷺ. She accepted Islam early and is remembered in hadith for the Prophet's affection for her — when he heard her voice it would remind him of Khadīja.
