Aminata Name Meaning in Islam

Aminata is the West African Fula and Mandé form of آمنة (Āmina), 'safe, trusted, protected,' from the Arabic root أ-م-ن (the same root as īmān, faith, and amīn, trustworthy). The final -ta reflects the Fulfulde and Bambara feminine ending; the name appears similarly in West African Mandinka, Wolof, and Soninke as Aminata or Aminatu.

The name belongs first to Āmina bint Wahb, the mother of the Prophet ﷺ, who died when Muḥammad was six years old. She is remembered in the early biographies for her vision at his birth, the song she sang over his cradle, and her grave at al-Abwāʾ between Mecca and Medina, where the Prophet later wept when he passed it. Aminata is one of the most common feminine names in Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Côte d'Ivoire, and is widely associated through these countries with the maternal qualities of the Prophet's mother.
