What Ameen means
The trustworthy, the faithful, the secure — from the root أ-م-ن (amina — to be trustworthy, to be safe). The Quran uses the exact form amin for the Prophet ﷺ as he is described to Pharaoh by Musa: 'Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger (rasulun amin)' (44:18) — and in the description of every prophet: 'I am to you a trustworthy messenger' (26:107, 26:125, 26:143, 26:162, 26:178). The angel Jibril is also described as al-ruh al-amin (the Trustworthy Spirit, 26:193).
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was called al-Amin ('the Trustworthy One') by the Quraysh of Mecca even before his prophethood — they would entrust their valuables to his keeping when travelling, knowing without doubt that he would return them. When the Black Stone was being replaced in the Ka'ba and the tribes were on the verge of war over which would have the honour, they accepted Muhammad ﷺ as judge precisely because of his title al-Amin. He resolved the dispute by spreading his cloak, placing the stone on it, and asking each tribal leader to lift one corner — so all carried it together.
The single word amin is also the Arabic 'Amen' said at the end of recitation of al-Fatiha and at the close of supplications. Top Arab, Pakistani, Maghrebi, and Indonesian boys name. Variants: Ameen, Amin, Aamin, Emin (Turkish/Bosnian). The Arabic is أَمِين.
