ʿAdlān (عدلان) is an intensive form of عدل (ʿadl — justice, balance). The -ān ending in classical Arabic forms an adjective of fullness or perfection: ʿaṭshān (very thirsty), shabʿān (fully sated), ʿadlān (utterly just). Where ʿĀdil is the just person, ʿAdlān is the person whose entire bearing is justice — not the act of being fair but the state of being balance itself.

The name is most common today in Malaysia, Brunei, southern Thailand, and parts of Indonesia, where parents have drawn on the wider Arabic vocabulary of divine attributes for masculine names.
