What Ta encodes

Light Ta (ت) is distinct from heavy Ta (ط). Where heavy Ta encodes the wheel and cyclical return, light Ta encodes completion and the feminine closing principle. Many Arabic words add Ta to indicate a feminine form or a completed, bounded state. It is the letter of coming full circle in a different sense. Not the wheel turning, but the circle closing.

Light Ta is connected to the divine name Al-Tawwab. The Ever-Returning, the Acceptor of Repentance. There is a quality of grace in this letter. The return that is welcomed, the completion that is accepted. Names beginning with light Ta often carry a quality of resolution and homecoming.

Ta as the first letter

A name beginning with light Ta produces someone whose primary orientation is toward completion. Finishing what is started, resolving what is open, returning to what matters. There is a reliability in them. They do not leave things half-done. The challenge is that completion-oriented natures can become perfectionists, delaying action until all conditions are right.

Ta joins on both sides, so it takes all four shapes. In a word it connects to the letter before it and to the letter after it, and the shape you see depends on where in the word it falls.

Ta is a sun letter. When the definite article ال (al-) comes before it, the l is not pronounced. It assimilates into Ta, which doubles instead. The word is still written with the ل, but you do not hear it. This is why الشمس is read ash-shams, not al-shams, and it is the reason these fourteen letters are called solar.
