Yaseen — Ya-Sin — Pakistani spelling.

Ya Sin — the two mysterious Arabic letters that open Surah 36 of the Quran. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'For everything there is a heart, and the heart of the Quran is Ya Sin. Whoever recites Ya Sin, Allah will record for him the reward of reciting the Quran ten times' (Tirmidhi). For this reason, Surah Ya Sin is the most recited surah in the Muslim world after al-Fatiha — read at funerals, on Friday nights, in moments of difficulty.

The surah opens: 'Ya Sin. By the wise Quran, indeed you are among the messengers, on a straight path' (36:1-4). The opening Ya Sin is one of the huruf muqatta'at — the disjointed letters whose precise meaning is among the secrets known only to Allah. Some classical commentators read Ya Sin as a vocative addressing the Prophet himself, as if to say: 'O Sayyid' or 'O Insan' (O Master, O Human Being). Ibn Abbas (RA) is reported to have understood it as one of the Prophet's own names.
