Dictionary Meaning
What Sabira means
From the Arabic root ṣ-b-r — patience — Ṣābira (صابرة) is the active participle feminine: 'she who is patient'. The Quran uses ṣabr (patience) and its derivatives more than ninety times, often pairing it with prayer as the two great supports: wa-istaʿīnū bi-l-ṣabri wa-l-ṣalāh — 'seek help in patience and prayer' (2:153). Of all virtues, ṣabr alone is described in the Quran as having an unbounded reward: innamā yuwaffā al-ṣābirūna ajrahum bi-ghayri ḥisāb — 'the patient will be paid their reward in full without measure' (39:10).
A widely-used girls' name across the Arab world, the Maghreb, and South Asia. Particularly popular in Pakistani, Egyptian, Algerian, and Bosnian Muslim families. The name is the feminine counterpart of Sabir.
Variants: Sabirah, Sabreen, Sabreena, Saabira. The masculine form is Sabir, Saabir, Sabri. Same patience family: Sabreen, Saberah, Saber. Compare Salimah (sound), Halimah (gentle).
